Updates 28 December 2023
Microsoft put in a fix for this issue now. Instead of the ‘Storage Accounts encountered an error’ - ‘Refresh Storage Accounts’ message when loading older Azure Pricing Calculator estimates, you will receive a prompt that will appear as add ‘To estimate, please add Azure Files calculator to your estimate’ or add ‘… Managed Disks calculator to your estimate’. Per below the screenshot here.
Previous Post Details
Creating estimates with Microsoft’s Azure Pricing calculator is something I do on a regular basis. Recently Microsoft added in some additional functionality for storage related products/ services. Previously the ‘Azure Files’ service was within the ‘Storage’ option, this has now moved to a separate area under ‘Azure Files’. Managed Disks also have been moved out separately too.
Why does this matter?
If you have previously saved Azure Pricing estimates and utilized the ‘Share’ functionality in the past you will now experience the following error messages for all ‘Azure Files’ related line items you would have used. ‘Storage Accounts encountered an error’. If you click ‘Refresh Storage Accounts’. This will then remove the previous line and default it to a blank storage account which will then need reconfiguring.

How do you fix it?
To fix this error, simply re-add in the line item/ product again via Products along with your storage and snap shot requirements.
Protip - make sure you have an idea of your Snapshot data. It will automatically add 1000GiB by default.
